Midlo Angels Partners with Local Faith-Based Organization In Texas For Scholarship Program

Grand Prairie, Texas, [8 JULY 2024] – The Midlothian Angel Network is thrilled to announce its partnership with the RCCG House on The Rock parish for its 11th annual scholarship program, Commencement Sunday 2024. This significant event honors graduates and high-achieving scholars across K12, celebrating their academic excellence and dedication to their studies.

Building on the support provided last year, Midlo Angels is proud to make an annual commitment to the scholarship program, starting this year. The network will provide cash gifts to K12 awardees, demonstrating its dedication to fostering educational success and supporting future leaders.

The scholarship program was initiated 15 years ago by Pastor Olugbenga Joseph Kuye, a scholar who, despite losing his father at seven months old but ended up with full-ride scholarships from high school to college. He was inspired by Nelson Mandela’s words: “Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine; that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation…”

Pastor Kuye has singlehandedly funded the program with support from some church members, for over a decade.

The program began with just five K12 students achieving All A Honor Roll status. Today, the church proudly produces about 70 Honor Roll (All A) students yearly, with many receiving President’s Academic Achievement Awards from their respective schools. Alumni of the program have gone on to win full-ride scholarships to prestigious institutions such as Harvard, MIT, UT Arlington, UT Austin among others.

“We are honored to be part of this impactful program that has transformed the lives of so many young scholars,” said Wale Salami, Executive Director of Midlothian Angel Network. “Our annual commitment underscores our belief in the power of education to change lives and build stronger communities.”

Pastor OJ Kuye, Resident Pastor of RCCG House on The Rock, Grand Prairie, added, “Education is a fundamental pillar for personal and community development. The support from the Midlothian Angel Network allows us to further our mission of empowering our youth to achieve their highest potential.”

This year’s Commencement Sunday was held on July 7, 2024 featuring distinguished guests, including the Mayor of Grand Prairie, Ron Jensen; the Chief of Police, Daniel Scesney, and City Councilwoman Bessye Adams.

For the first time, the keynote speaker was an alum of the scholarship program, Dr. Jolaiya Faturoti, an obstetrician-gynecologist with her own OBGYN practice in Richardson, Texas. Her inspirational and electrifying speech made the event a memorable celebration of academic achievement and community support.
